Powerful massage to address problems in the Body and Mind

Tui Na or Tuina, (pronounced “twey na”) is a Chinese medical massage, which relies on deep tissue massage, acupressure, assisted stretching and careful joint manipulations. It is one of the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with Acupuncture, Cupping, Herbal and Food Medicine, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Tuina can successfully address a big deal of health issues. It is used in many hospitals in China.

Inflammation and dis-ease cause blockages in the body. The cells may get swollen and produce little energy from food because of poor breathing, hormonal imbalance, stress, injury or otherwise impaired metabolism. There may be a physical or emotional blockage that impairs nerve conduction, or the free flow of blood and lymph in the body.

Firstly, Tui Na uses a plethora of techniques to deal with the physical aspects such as pressing, hand sliding, rolling fist, kneading, chopping, or vibrating palm, in order to release tension in the muscles. Secondly, it uses acupressure and finger work, as well as assisted manipulations (similar to the ones in physiotherapy and osteopathy) to remove blockages along the so-called channels (sheaths of connective tissues).

This makes Tui Na a complete healing system, because it combines the strengths of complementary approaches. Not only works this medicinal massage on the physical body helping to remove stagnation and encourage blood flow to the area, just like the western massages do, but it also works on restoring the balance of Qi, as employed in the Eastern techniques, allowing one to become an integrated Self. Qi can be roughly translated as the universal life energy, related to the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

When Qi is strong and flowing freely, then the person is healthy, or quickly recovers when ill or injured.

The benefits of Tui na

Tui na can be safely applied to babies, children and most adults in all walks of life. There are both gentle and vigorous variations possible within the treatment (as well as any variant in between) that make Tui Na totally versatile to nearly all conditions and health issues.

Tui Na offers a gentle approach when applied to babies and small children. It can help with the majority of childhood aliments, such as colic, constipation, weak immunity,  tantrums, restlessness, lack of internal strength, ADD/ADHD, or learning difficulty.

Children respond greatly to Tui na, but they require the loving touch of their parents as well. My goal is to teach the parents a few techniques that can be followed at home, alongside the treatment course. I am especially interested to treat children with various spectrum of Asberger syndrome, autism or learning difficulty. Tui Na is a very promising healing modality for them.

Health concerns

Tui Na can help with the majority of health concerns, both acute or chronic. Examples include:

  •  Migraines and headaches
  • Shoulder pain
  • Neck pain
  • Upper back pain
  • Low back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Weak legs
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Rheumatism
  • Stress and fatigue
  • Digestive disorders
  • Hypertension
  • Fertility
  • Muscle tone
  • Sport injuries
  • Weak immunity
  • Difficulty with decision making
  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • Sadness, Depression
  • Anger and bad temper
  • Sore scar tissues
  • Poor breathing and so on.

What to expect at the treatment?

I will first explain how Tui Na works and assess your condition. You will stay in your clothes and either lie down on a massage table or be seated, depending on the condition. Then you will be covered with a cotton sheet which facilitates the smoothness of the techniques used.

It is necessary to come in soft, loose clothing as otherwise the applied techniques will loose their practicability and assisted stretching will become impossible. As a result, you may not be able to take all the benefits from the treatment.

Please wear no jeans and no skirts/dresses.

The treatment does not generally include the whole body massage but focuses on the problematic area and the related channels (e.g. upper body, hands and feet). Depending on the issues to be addressed, the condition of the client and a personal preference, the treatment can be either vigorous, or gentle, or a mix.

Please be aware that, if necessary, a special Chinese ointment will be rubbed into the body area to assist a deep muscle work. In addition, a massage oil may be used on neck, hands and feet to facilitate the movement. It may also be needed to work on the exposed tummy area, so please wear a top that can be rolled up to the ribs.

Response to treatment

Each person is unique. The response to treatment varies. Some people experience a good improvement after the first treatment, while others may need a few treatments before seeing improvement. In general, acute conditions may be resolved in as little as 2 or 3 treatments. Chronic conditions often need more sessions, usually combined with acupuncture, before a good progress is experienced.

Usually, one treatment per week is recommended for the first 3 or 4 weeks, after which the sessions are spaced further apart.

You are welcome to come for one off treatment to find out how you like it.

The use of a holistic approach enables a treatment of the whole person. My experience has shown that most people find unexpected benefits above and far beyond their initial reason for seeking treatment. Examples include improved sleep, digestion or appetite; improved mental clarity; improved energy, inner balance and improved sense of well-being.

Appointments last 45min for kids and 1h for adults. Please allow additional 20-30min for the initial consultation.

My Mission

I want to provide you with the best and most effective complementary care possible.

I am here to help you get well physically, mentally and emotionally so that you can enjoy your Zesty Life.

Acupuncture is used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions. It works powerfully by adjusting the nervous system, improving blood flow, stimulating stem cell release to injury sites, and helping various body systems to become active.

Facial rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation involves face acupuncture, massage and a healing mask. It can reduce wrinkles, eliminate fine lines, lift sagging skin and improve skin colour and texture.

Herbal medicine offers a safe and effective therapy that is used to awaken the body’s natural processes and encourage healing. Herbs work truly powerfully to correct imbalances between organs: address both deficiencies and excesses (e.g. oedema) and facilitate  well-being.

Tuina massage softens tense muscles, mobilises joints and tendons and gets the blood and lymph moving. It works on the nervous system and improves the functioning of the internal organs.

Cupping  improves circulation, eases pain and inflammation, and achieve relaxation. It may work as a deep-tissue massage which is often beneficial for various injuries.

Gua sha

Gua sha healing massage can lead to an immediate relief from pain, stiffness, fever, cough or nausea. It works well for acute and chronic organ disorders.

Singing bowls make sound that reach into every cell of the body giving a feeling of harmony, relaxation and joy. This is effective for people with an active lifestyle, resigned, depressed, burned or stressed-out.
